THE IMPORTANCE OF KHOJ (RESEARCH)

To Understand Gurmat from the Source - Gurbaani, Ithihaas and Rehit

ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥

Contemplate and reflect upon knowledge, and you will become a benefactor to others.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib - Ang 356

The current day presentation of gurmat is, at times, found to be quite skewed.

Khoj literally means to seek earnestly and to ask questions. For a Sikh, this means to fearlessly establish gurmat and to have the humility and courage to shun manmat (strong held beliefs/opinions).

As Khoji, we make an effort to understand gurmat by studying gurbaani, ithihaas and rehit, and cross reference them to eliminate any doubts.

To Break Free from Opinions and Let Guru Manifest

The 'Panth' today is in disarray due to a proliferation of 'opinions'. Often, these opinions have been pushed as Gurmat by innovative/agenda driven individuals and their fanatical followers.

Such groups have altered Gurmat to suit their own needs and in doing so, clipped the wings of truth.  Gurmat, many a time, is reduced to crowd pleasing symbolism or empty ritual.

Engaging in Khoj will enable the Panth to re-establish Gurmat, shun opinions and let Guru manifest.  When this happens, all Panthic divisions (egos) will finally be erased.

To Be Empowered In Your Spiritual Path. To Ask Questions. To Find Answers From Original Sources and Enliven That Wisdom.

The culture of asking deep questions and seeking evidence based and practical answers, (preshan and utter) has all but disappeared.

Yet most individuals come across and retain numerous questions on their spiritual journey.

Becoming a Gurmat Khoji (along with being a Naam Abiyaasi) will empower one to get real answers to the most challenging questions in life such as;

  • Why are we here?
  • What is dharam?
  • Why is there suffering?
  • What is reality?
  • Where do we go?
  • What’s the difference between destiny and karma?

Thereby obtaining aatmik gyaan directly from the Guru.

Such a person does ‘real’ seva.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

The Guru's seva is to contemplate the sabad.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib - Ang 223
